Data Scientist sought by Episona, Inc. in Pasadena, CA to develop data models and databases to classify fertile and infertile patients using epigenetic markers extracted from large human genome methylation data; use statistical model including mixed effect models, time series analysis, and Markov models, in R and machine learning algorithms to study the effect of different environmental covariates on the sperm DNA methylation patterns and for normalization and removal of batch effects; utilize various machine learning algorithms in Python and Wekka to train a classifier for predicting male infertility using sperm DNA methylation data; assist in transition from an array-based platform to a next-generation sequencing (NGS) based platform; analyze and utilize epigenetic array data for clinical research purposes; research and identify epigenetic markers relating to male fertility using mixed effect beta regression models; use C++ programing, Bash and R scripts to analyze WGBS methylation data and to develop a pipeline for preprocessing sperm DNA array methylation data; use statistical models, including time series analysis and survival analysis, in R to study time sensitivity of sperm DNA methylation data; oversee research and publications on the relation of different environmental and genetic factors on male fertility; and assist in the implementation of production-level data-processing pipelines for epigenetic NGS data.

Requires Master’s or foreign equivalent degree in Genetics, Biomedical Engineering, Computational Biology & Bioinformatics or related field, and two (2) years of experience in the offered position or bioinformatics research related occupation, including using statistical model including mixed effect models, time series analysis, and Markov models, in R and machine learning algorithms to study the effect of different covariates and for normalization and removal of batch effects; utilizing various machine learning algorithms in Python and Wekka; and using C++ programing and Bash script to analyze WGBS methylation data.
