How Do I Provide My Sample?

Episona’s sample collection kits are designed to be easy to use. The sample collection process consists of a few basic steps. Although the process is mostly self-explanatory, here are a few things to keep in mind while providing your sample.

Your Episona kit should contain:

1) Return shipping label on the outside bottom of the kit
2) Specimen container
3) Biohazard bag
4) Double-sided tape to seal the kit before shipping
5) Kit registration instructions

Although uncommon, please be aware that the laboratory will not analyze your specimen sample if the container has leaked during transportation. Therefore, please seal the specimen container cap tightly to avoid any possibility of leakage during shipping.

The double-sided tape is strong enough to keep the box properly sealed for shipment- it’s really strong stuff! Just remove the green and white waxy strip, close the box, and press on it a little bit. After you seal the box with this stuff, you can’t open it without tearing the box itself!

DNA methylation, the molecule that we’re analyzing, is highly stable under many environmental conditions. In fact, it is as stable as the DNA molecule itself. This means that the shipping process will not affect your sample in any negative way for the laboratory analysis.

If you would like to track the package, just write down the package tracking number listed on the prepaid shipping label. For Canada Post shipments, this still involves USPS tracking and the number can be found in the middle of the label.

After you registered and consented at the clinic, you should have received an email asking you to confirm your email address. Just click on that link and it will ask you to sign in. Once you sign in, please complete your questionnaire. We will need to confirm your email address and complete your questionnaire before we can process your sample.
